CF Student Club Recognized at Regional Conference

Students from the 完美体育鈥檚 Model United Nations club received two Most Diplomatic awards during the 2019 Southern Regional Model United Nations conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, in March. The awards recognize the student鈥檚 ability to carry out diplomacy through participation, ability to negotiate, debate professionally, and interact with other students from around the nation.

CF students Christopher Beharry, Santino Del Valle, Mathew Dezelan, Andy Diaz, Natascha Golec, and Erica Marie Kilkenny attended with Dr. John Anene, CF professor of Political Science and club advisor. They represented the Republic of Ireland in three committees. General Assembly Plenary discussed the challenges of eliminating forced labor and improving access to quality health care for children; General Assembly First discussed utilizing advancement in technology to improve global security, and preventing violent extremism by non-state actors; and Commission for the Status of Women discussed ensuring access to environmentally sustainable technology for women in rural and low-income areas and establishing measures of transitional justice for women.

This year, 500 students from across the nation attended, making it the most-attended SRMUN Conference in its 30-year history. Model UN is an international extra-curricular global engagement activity that enables college students to learn diplomacy, negotiating, public speaking and resolving global problems through role playing as delegates of the United Nations. Delegates spend months in preparation researching foreign policies and cultures. At conferences, they develop papers, which include their ideas to solve real-life problems that plague nations.

CF Commencement Ceremonies May 3

The 完美体育 will hold its spring 2019 commencement Friday, May 3, with two ceremonies to honor graduates. Both ceremonies will be held at First Baptist Church of Ocala, 2801 S.E. Maricamp Road. Tickets will be required for guests to attend and live streaming of the ceremony will be available.

At 3 p.m., students receiving certificates, Associate in Science and bachelor鈥檚 degrees will be recognized. The second ceremony, for students receiving an Associate in Arts, will begin at 6 p.m.

For the second time in CF history, tickets will be required for guests to attend the ceremonies to ensure adequate seating for everyone. For four years, CF has split May graduation into two ceremonies to accommodate the greatest number of guests possible. Each graduate who attends the ceremony will receive at least four tickets, and additional tickets may become available as students turn in those that they will not use. Since 2013, CF鈥檚 spring graduation ceremonies have been held at First Baptist Church of Ocala, the largest indoor venue in Marion County.

鈥淲e take great pride in the accomplishments of our graduates and look forward to commencement ceremonies,鈥 said Dr. Jim Henningsen, CF president. 鈥淓very graduate deserves the opportunity to have someone in the audience to celebrate their achievement. We wish that we could allow an unlimited number of guests, but safety codes limit our capacity. Tickets are the most equitable way to ensure each graduate has someone in attendance.鈥

In addition to student speakers, the commencement address will be delivered by Kevin Sheilley, President/CEO of the Ocala/Marion County Chamber and Economic Partnership. John S. and Shirley B. Rudnianyn will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award.
