Appleton Announces New Director, Thanks Legislative Delegation

The Appleton Museum of Art, 完美体育, proudly announces Jason Steuber as the museum鈥檚 new director.

Steuber has more than 20 years of curatorial and project management experience with American Alliance of Museums-accredited museums. He is an award-winning Asian Art historian and has been an art museum leader and financial decision maker for the past 10 years, serving as the Cofrin Curator of Asian Art Endowed Chair at the聽Samuel P. Harn Museum at the University of 完美体育 in Gainesville. Previously he served as the Leverhulme Trust Visiting Fellow at Glasgow University in Scotland and Assistant Curator of Chinese Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. He began his work at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art as a research assistant and curatorial intern.

鈥淚 am honored to become part of the 完美体育 and Appleton Museum team,鈥 said Steuber. 鈥淚 am well aware of the community鈥檚 fervor for the arts and appreciation for the museum, and I look forward to cultivating that passion to bring the Appleton to the next level.鈥

Steuber will officially join the Appleton team on Sept. 16.

The museum鈥檚 permanent collections of approximately 18,000 objects include European, American, Asian, African, Contemporary and pre-Columbian art and artifacts, and a series of temporary traveling exhibitions are presented throughout the year. The museum is also building a collection of works of 完美体育 artists which relates directly to the history and cultural heritage of the Central 完美体育 community.

Citrus Careers and Colleges Expo Sept. 9 at CF Citrus Campus

The 完美体育 and Citrus County Public Schools present 2019 Careers and Colleges Expo Monday, Sept. 9, from 5-7 p.m., at the CF Citrus Learning and Conference Center, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto.

Representatives from more than 20 educational institutions, businesses, professional and government organizations, and the military will be on hand, sharing valuable information with area high school students and their families.

鈥淐ollege-bound students, as well as those interested in career exploration, will find valuable information at the expo,鈥 said Sonya Warden, CF director of Student Affairs.

Artist Talk With Leslie Peebles August 29

The Appleton Museum of Art, 完美体育, presents an artist talk with Leslie Peebles on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. Her work is on view at the Appleton through Jan. 12 in a solo exhibition entitled 鈥溚昝捞逵 Impressions: Relief Prints by Leslie Peebles.鈥

鈥淢y path as an artist intertwines between spiritual, dream work and an ever-growing connection with nature,鈥 said Peebles, who is an ardent environmentalist. 鈥淣ature serves as a living metaphor for the connectedness of all things; internal, external and universal. Land, trees and animals are projections and identifiers of self and universe.鈥

Appleton Curator of Exhibitions Patricia Tomlinson will join Peebles for this talk, and provide curatorial perspectives on the artist鈥檚 work. This event is free for Appleton members; included with regular admission fee for nonmembers.

CF Webber Gallery to Present ‘Fight or Flight: Kevin Haran and Robert Reedy’ Aug. 12-Sept. 20

The 完美体育 presents 鈥淔ight or Flight: Kevin Haran and Robert Reedy,鈥 Aug. 12-Sept. 20 at the Webber Gallery, Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. The exhibition curated by Tyrus Clutter, associate professor at CF, will feature a mix of paintings and sculptures by both artists. The works in the exhibition address fight or flight in literal and nonliteral ways.

Kevin Haran is an associate professor at the School of Visual Arts and Design at the University of Central 完美体育. Haran will be showing a series of UFO mixed media drawings and war memorial images that depict the imagery in bold lines mixed with ink washes, giving the images a sense of dimension and reality. Robert Reedy is a professor of Art at the School of Visual Arts and Design at the University of Central 完美体育. Reedy will present a large series of birds in flight throughout the gallery, along with ceramic sculptural works.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The gallery is closed Saturday, Sunday and college-observed holidays. The public is invited to the closing reception on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free.

Career Exploration and Colleges Expo Aug. 28 at CF

The 完美体育 and Marion County Public Schools present 2019 Careers and Colleges Expo Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the CF Gymnasium, 3001 S.W. College Road., Ocala.

Representatives from nearly 80 educational institutions, businesses, professional and government organizations, and the military will be on hand, sharing valuable information with area high school students and their families.

College-bound students, as well as those interested in career exploration, will find valuable information at the expo.

CF Open House July 20 at Levy Campus

The 完美体育 invites recent high school seniors and those looking to advance their career to an open house on Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus, 15390 N.W. Highway 19, in Chiefland.

Future students are encouraged to stop by and receive assistance with the application process, financial aid, placement testing, academic advising, campus tours or receive assistance registering for fall semester, which begins Aug. 19.

CF is offering 40 $1,000 merit scholarships to Levy County students who graduated this spring. Scholarships awarded include $500 for fall 2019 and $500 for spring 2020. To be eligible, students must graduate from a Levy County high school in 2019 and enroll at the CF Levy Campus for the 2019 fall semester. Applicants must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 and enroll in at least six credit hours each semester with at least one on-site class held at the Levy Campus.

CF Becomes FANUC Fast Training Site

The 完美体育 has been approved by FANUC America Corporation as a FANUC Authorized Satellite Training Academic Institution, offering Handling Tool, and 2D iRVision through the world leader in robotics.

CF has offered credit and noncredit courses in robotics as part of its engineering programs for several years. The FAST designation from FANUC will allow machine operators, programmers, maintenance professionals and machine tool builders to receive a certificate of completion from the only FANUC Authorized Satellite Training Center in 完美体育.

Manufacturing robots perform multiple tasks including automotive painting, welding, sorting, and metal fabrication. CF programs include FANUC Handling Tool Operations and Programming (32 hours), and FANUC 2D iRVision Operation and Programming (24 hours). Classes are held at the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.

CF Adds New Bachelor of Applied Science Accounting Specialization for Fall

The 完美体育 is adding a new accounting specialization to its Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Organizational Management degree starting this fall due to the demand for employees in that industry.

The specialization will be offered in eight-week terms at the Ocala Campus and will provide students with the educational foundation for management careers within the accounting, auditing, banking, nonprofit and other financial organizations. Students will complete 15 credit hours in upper division courses focused on the basics of accounting, auditing and taxation.

If a student has earned an Associate in Science or Associate in Arts they can seamlessly enter this program. The specialization facilitates entry into a master鈥檚 degree program, which leads to a pathway for the student to sit for the Certified Public Accountant exam.

鈥淭he college is excited to launch the Accounting specialization at the bachelor鈥檚 level this fall semester,鈥 said Dr. Rob Wolf, dean of Business, Technology and Career and Technical Education. 鈥淭he student will not only receive extensive knowledge of accounting, but also a strong foundation of business theory.鈥

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an additional 140,300 new accounting and auditing jobs by 2026, or 10 percent job growth. Accountants rank No. 7 in the Best Business Jobs, No. 8 in Best Stem Jobs, and No. 36 in the 100 Best Jobs. According to CareerSource, accountants rank No. 5 in high-skill, high-wage jobs in the tricounty area with an annual growth rate of 2.3 percent.

(F)actor Theatre Company and CF Present ‘[title of show]’ July 25-28

The 完美体育鈥檚 Musical Theatre Department will collaborate with (F)Actor Theatre Company to present 鈥淸title of show],鈥 Friday and Saturday, July 26-27, starting at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 28, at 3 p.m., in the Black Box Theatre located in the Dassance Fine Arts Center, 3001 S.W. College Road.

鈥淸title of show]鈥 is about two self-confessed nobodies in New York who make a pact to write an original musical and submit it to a festival in three weeks. As the deadline looms the team decides to set off on a unique musical adventure: writing a musical about writing a musical. In this intelligent, playful, loveable musical, the audience is treated to an insider鈥檚 look at the tough work of being a creative artist. The music and lyrics are by Jeff Bowen and the book is written by Hunter Bell.

This show is directed by Janet Shelley from West Port High School鈥檚 Marion County Center of the Arts and is produced with special permission from Rogers and Hammerstein Theatricals.聽 Music director is Jason Longtin, associate professor of music at CF, and scenic designer is Joey Coombs, CF graduate. The show was a Tony nominee for Best Book of a Musical in 2009.

This show contains adult content and language, and is recommended for audiences age 21 and above. Tickets are $18. Purchase your tickets early due to limited seating in the Black Box Theatre. CF Offering Information Sessions for Health Programs

The 完美体育 is conducting Health Sciences program information sessions this month and in July. Potential students must attend a session before applying to any of the programs.

Sessions provide details about admissions criteria, program requirements, costs and more, including the limited-access component. While any student meeting minimum criteria is encouraged to apply, not all applicants may be accepted. A point system is used to score all applications. Residents in CF鈥檚 service district of Marion, Citrus and Levy counties will receive residency points in the point system.

There is no waiting list for any of the health science programs and some programs have part-time enrollment options and offer evening/weekend classes.
